8-Man Championship–Worth County is back on top of the 8-man classification following their 64-21 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon at Plaster Field in Springfield.  Worth Co. wins their first state championship since 2011.

Sacred Heart was up 15-6 in the first quarter, before Worth Co. took the ensuing kickoff down to the 13.  Tevin Cameron’s 13-yd run made it a one possession game and on the next drive, Ryan McClellan came up with a pick-six for 22-15 lead.  Worth Co. ended up scoring 28 unanswered points building a 34-15 lead late in the first half.  Sacred Heart pulled to within 34-21 right at the end of the first half on a Nicholas Cashman 37 yd catch from Trenton Lyles.  That would be the final time they would score.

Class 6 Championship

One would figure if CBC’s Brett Gabbert would be held to no touchdown passes and less than 200 yards passing that Blue Springs would find themselves in a good position to win, but that wasn’t the case.  Bryan Bradford ran for three short touchdowns of 2,4, and 6 yards and despite allowing 248 yards on the ground, CBC won the Class 6 title on Saturday evening 31-14 at Plaster Field.

Bradford finished with 123 yards on 29 carries.

The lone touchdown pass came late in the third quarter when Julian Williams haulded in a 53 yd pass from Carson Buddemey, who also finished with five catches for 57 yards.

The conditions made for a sloppy game that left points off the board.  Blue Springs missed two field goals and had two drives end in interceptions when they were playing catch up.  CBC opened the game with a Gabbert fumble and they missed a field goal attempt as well.

CBC won their 2nd state title in the last three years.  Blue Springs finishes runner up for the second year in a row.
