Time to talk some baseball.

The Cardinals released pitcher Trevor Rosenthal who is recovering from Tommy John surgery and wouldn’t be ready until the middle of next season.

Good move by the Cards.  That helps free up money for the Cardinals to work on finding a closer and a big bat in the lineup.

The Cardinals extended a qualifying offer to Lance Lynn and the Royals extended qualifying offers to Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain and Mike Moustakas.  This basically guarantees the ballclub compensation in the form of a draft pick if the player declines and signs with another ballclub.

The Royals will remain on the hook for 33 year old pitcher Ian Kennedy’s contract.  He’ll stay in KC and collect his huge paycheck.  He went 5-13 with a 5.38 ERA last year.

Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong is up for National League Rookie of the Year.  He’s one of three finalists for the award, along with Dodgers first baseman Cody Bellinger and Pirates first baseman Josh Bell.

As you know, Sluggerrr of the Royals is being inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.  I’ve got a few more details on his induction ceremony.  He’ll be joining K.C. Wolf of the Chiefs, which reminds me of the greatest mascot story.
