The largest volume of motorists since 2007 will be traveling on America’s roadways this holiday weekend. Triple A estimates nearly 49 million U.S. drivers will travel 50 miles or more. Spokesman Nick Jarmusz says that’s a 1.9% increase from last year.

“If you are planning to travel on Wednesday or Sunday, you’re probably going to see some significant traffic delays, especially around the metropolitan areas.”
Jarmusz credits an improving economy for the increase weekend.
“More people feel confident about their own personal pocketbook. Their wages are maybe going up slightly. They feel more secure in their employment situation,” says Jarmusz.
Travelers will also benefit from lower gas prices, with the average price at about 1.89 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel in Missouri.
