MU News Bureau spokesman Nathan Hurst says active shooter training began Monday afternoon at about 2 on the Mizzou campus in Columbia. Hurst tells Missourinet a number of uniformed law enforcement officers are participating, including the SWAT Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team. The Columbia Police Department’s armored SWAT vehicle is also on-scene.

Hurst emphasizes that these are exercises and that there is no need to call 911 or take other action. Missouri State Troopers, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies and Columbia Fire and EMS are also participating.

Hurst says the training will continue until the early evening on Monday.
