The Missouri Senate has 17 of its 34 seats up for grabs in Tuesday’s general election, including four key races. Five of the 17 senators are running unopposed and three others face Libertarian challengers. There are also three vacant seats waiting to be filled. The four races that could be tight include:
Missouri Senate
In District 1, incumbent Scott Sifton (D-Affton) faces Republican Randy Jotte of Webster Groves. Sifton, an attorney, has served in the Senate since 2013. Jotte, a physician, is a former Webster Groves city councilman.
In District 15, Republican state Rep. Andrew Koenig (R-Manchester) is challenging Democrat Stephen Eagleton. Koenig, a construction company owner and insurance adjuster, has been serving in the Missouri House since 2009. Eagleton is an attorney and real estate developer from Kirkwood.
A highly-contentious race is in the 19th Senatorial district – state Rep. Stephen Webber (D-Columbia) is running against state Rep. Caleb Rowden (R-Columbia). Webber, who has been serving in the Missouri House since 2009, is an attorney and has served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Rowden owns a media and marketing company. He began serving in the Missouri House in 2013.
In southeast Missouri’s District 25, Incumbent Doug Libla (R-Poplar Bluff) faces former Democratic Missouri U.S. Congressman Bill Burlison. Libla has served in the Missouri Senate since 2013. Burlison served in the U.S. House from 1969-1980.
