Hours after the Game 7 of the World Series wrapped up, The Cardinals announced that they have signed manager Mike Matheny to a three-year extension through the 2020 season.  Matheny was in the final year of his contract.  Derek Lilliquist and John Mabry, will return to their roles as pitching and hitting coach respectively.

The club made some coaching moves.  They promoted Class A Advanced Palm Beach manager Oliver Marmol as the Cardinals new first-base coach.  Bill Mueller, who served as the Cardinals’ first-base coach this season, will return to the assistant hitting coach role he had in 2015, replacing Derrick May, who will not be back with the team.  The club also named Triple-A Memphis manager Mike Shildt their quality control coach.

Matheny has been the Cardinals manager for the past five season, compiling a 461-349 record with four straight postseason appearances after taking over for Tony La Russa in 2012, which included three straight National League Central division titles from 2013-15 and an NLCS appearance in three straight seasons as well as a NL pennant in 2013.
