A Missouri Congressman’s voting record earned him an award Monday from the state’s largest general farm organization.

The Missouri Farm Bureau presented Third District Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) with its “Friend of Farm Bureau” award, during Monday’s event at Farm Bureau headquarters in Jefferson City.
Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst says Luetkemeyer listens, learns and leads, citing his record of voting 94 percent of the time in line with Farm Bureau’s position on legislation. Hurst told Farm Bureau employees that Luetkemeyer is a farmer who understands agriculture issues.
“He stood with us in supporting the farm bill and the water resource development act, which we hope will pass in the lame duck session, final passage. He’s been right with us in leading the charge against the Waters of the United States rule,” Hurst says.
The Waters of the United States mandate further expands the federal government’s authority of waterways.
Hurst says Luetkemeyer has also championed sound Missouri River transportation issues.
Luetkemeyer describes the Missouri Farm Bureau as a “bottom-up” organization.
“So whenever you work with Farm Bureau leadership, you’re not working with them and their ideas. You’re working with them and their representation of the ideas of their members,” Luetkemeyer says.
Luetkemeyer, whose sprawling 13-county district stretches from Camdenton to Fulton to St. Charles, is seeking a fifth term. He faces Democratic challenger Kevin Miller in November, along with Libertarian candidate Dan Hogan and Constitution Party candidate Doanita Simmons.
