The results for Cardinals left handed starter Jaime Garcia has been concerning over the last month of the season.
For the fourth time in his last five starts, Garcia was tagged with five or more earned runs as the Cardinals lost to the Brewers 12-5.
Garcia talks about the importance of these games in September.
For the third straight game, the Cardinals couldn’t get a starter to finish the fifth inning, but the issues for Garcia have lingered. He got pulled after 3 2/3 innings after giving up eight hits, which included home runs on back-to-back pitches. He gave up five runs to see his ERA shoot up to a season high 4.58. It was under four in early August.
This is the second time in his career he has lost four straight starts.
As for the rest of the Cardinals’ rotation? It has managed just five wins in the last 19 games. Perhaps the staggering amount of home runs the club had been hitting covered up a bigger issue for this team as they come down the stretch?
The Cardinals fell out of the Wild Card positions after Thursday night’s loss.
