The Cardinals used three homers Jacob deGrom to give plenty of support for Carlos Martinez to cruise to an 8-1 blowout of the New York Mets.

Matt Carpenter, Randal Grichuk and Stephen Piscotty all homered in the win.  Martinez allowed just one run over eight innings on four-hits to improve to 12-and-7.

Grichuk has played in 11 games since returning from the minors and has 12 extra-base hits, including five home runs, pushing his season total to 17.

The Cardinals and Mets close out their three-game series tonight at Busch Stadium. Adam Wainwright will pitch for St. Louis. He’s 9-and-7. New York starts 0-and-2 Seth Lugo. First pitch is at 6:15 p.m.

The Cardinals lead the Marlins by a game-and-a-half for the second NL wild card.
