The nation’s homeland security level has been raised to orange or “High.” And, the state Red Cross is taking the occasion to remind Missourians they need to be prepared. Melissa Friel with the Capital Area chapter recommends creating an emergency communication plan with the family, establish two places to meet – one close to your home and another farther away in case of an area evacuation, check on emergency plans at your children’s school or day care, and put together a disaster supplies kit including prescriptions, food, clothing, and enough water for three days – good advice any time considering some of the natural disasters Missouri suffers. Friel says make sure children are included in the planning and know what to do in an emergency.
