Brandon Moss drove in a pair of runs during the Cardinals four-run first inning, and the bullpen held on for dear life in a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night.

The Redbirds sent nine batters to the plate in the first against Cody Reed (0-6) as Moss and Greg Garcia each brought home a pair of runs. Stephen Piscotty added a solo homer, the Cardinals’ fifth in two games.

Moss and Jhonny Peralta returned from the DL on Tuesday and Moss is 5 for 9 with three doubles and a homer. Against the Reds this season, he’s 12 of 28 (.429) with three doubles and five homers.

The bullpen took care of the final four innings as once again, Michael Wacha was only able to finish five innings.  He’s won his fifth straight decision to improve to 7-7. He’s only pitched beyond the sixth inning in six of his starts this year.  The last time coming on June 28.
