One teenager is dead and another has been injured after a fight early Monday in the southern Missouri town of Ava. Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase says the shooting happened in a high school parking lot.
Fight between two southern Missouri teenagers turns deadly
“It appears they were meeting there for a mutual fight. I don’t believe it was supposed to involve a handgun but it does look like they were meeting there for some type of physical altercation,” says Degase. “The other male subject appears to have turned the gun on himself and shot himself.”
Both boys recently graduated from Ava.
“I, as well as other officers here, have kids at the school close to that age. Other kids know them and have been familiar with them. Some of them have been in my home,” says Degase.
The victim is said to be in stable condition.
