Mike Leake struck out 11 over six innings of work to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 10-2 series opening victory over the San Diego Padres at Busch Stadium Monday night.

Leaks evened his record at 7-7 giving up just one earned run while scattering six hits.

The offense for the Cardinals came late scoring two in the fifth, four in the sixth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth.

Stephan Piscotty, Randall Grichuk and Jedd Gyorko all hit home runs in the win for St. Louis.  Matt Adams provided a key pinch hit double that drove in two.
