St. Louis Cardinals Matt Carpenter UPI/Bill Greenblatt

The St. Lous Cardinals saw a three game winning streak come to an end in a 4-2 series opening loss to Pittsburgh on Monday.
The Cardinals were able to get on top first as Matt Carpenter would single in Jedd Gyorko in the fifth inning. The Pirates would respond with two in the 6th and solo tallies in the seventh and eigth.

Carpenter would double in Kolten Wong in the ninth for the Cardinals other run.

Carlos Martinez take the loss tossing seven innings of three run ball, giving up nine hits while striking out seven.

Jonathon Niese notched the victory for the Pirates.
