The Cardinals wrapped up a tough road trip winning five of eight after Tuesday night’s 8-4 win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.

These teams play two more times in St. Louis.

Yordano Ventura and Michael Wacha weren’t particularly sharp.

The Cardinals got to Venutura in the second. He gave up three hits, walked two and Yadier Molina, Kolten Wong and Greg Garcia each drove in runs.

In the fifth Matt Carpenter hit his 14th homer.

Carpenter had an RBI double and Brandon Moss and Matt Holliday made it 8-2 before reliever Brian Flynn finally got the Royals out of the sixth inning.

Wacha survived six shaky innings. He got out of the bases loaded-one out jam, getting Kendry Morales to ground into a force out at home and Paulo Orlando to fly out to right.

The Royals loaded the bases in the ninth off Seung Hwan Oh, but Alex Gordon popped up and Eric Hosmer grounded out to end the game.

Lorenzo Cain pulled up with a hamstring issue in the seventh. Ned Yost did not provide an update.
