It was a rough outing for Royals starter Edinson Volquez as Kansas City falls 13-4 to Houston in the opener of a series at Kaufmann Stadium.

George Springer hit a grand slam and a triple in Houston’s nine-run first inning off Volquez. Springer finished with five RBIs, and Colby Rasmus had four hits, including a homer in the eighth, scored three runs and drove in two.

Volquez pitched into the second inning but did not record an out giving up an additional three runs. In total, his line was one inning pitched, eight hits, three walks, twelve run, eleven earned.

Alcides Escobar and Cheslor Cuthbert each went deep for the Royals, who were only out-hit 14-11 but the early deficit proved to be too deep to overcome.
