A volunteer with a group calling itself “Mid-Missourians for Bernie” hopes that Thursday’s meeting between President Obama and Democrat Bernie Sanders is about Sanders dropping out of the Presidential race. Tao Weilundemo thinks Obama is mediating for Sanders and Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

“I’m sure that it’s Obama telling him (Sanders) to endorse Hillary, but at the same time Obama hasn’t endorsed Hillary either,” said Weilundemo.

Clinton gained enough delegates in Tuesday’s multi-state primary elections to clinch the Democratic nomination for President. Weilundemo says he’s been bracing for this day.

“There’s people who had varying feelings and expectations. For me, I feel like it’s been kind of a long shot probably since March 15th, when our primary was. I thought we were going to do better,” said Weilundemo.

Despite Clinton’s victory on Tuesday, Sanders has vowed to continue campaigning to the national convention.

“We’ve shown that there’s a huge support for his policies,” said Weilundemo. “For a lot of Bernie supporters to get on board with Hillary, we are going to need some serious concessions. I feel like that is sort of just leveraging for that.”

Weilundemo also thinks Sanders continues to campaign if Clinton is indicted for her role in an email scandal while serving as Secretary of State.

Some Bernie supporters aren’t ready to back Clinton.

“There’s a lot of people who bet it all on Bernie and they’re just kind of looking for a silver bullet. I don’t think our group, in general, has that mindset. We’re willing to look at the bigger picture and not just so set on Bernie being our savior,” said Weilundemo.

One more primary election remains before the national convention next month in Philadelphia. The District of Columbia holds its election next Tuesday.
