Lorenzo Cain’s third homer in the game, coming in the eighth inning tied the game at 7-7.

The Yankees scored three times in the eighth to pull off a 10-7 final, handing the Royals their 11th loss in 14 games.

Brett Gardner drove in the go-ahead run with a double off Kelvin Herrera to left-center after rookie Ben Gamel reached on an error by Alcides Escobar. Brian McCann added a two-run double.

Cain hit his first two homers off Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka–a solo homer in the third inning and a three-run shot in the fifth. Cheslor Cuthbert also hit a two-run homer off Tanaka

The Yankees rallied to take the lead in the seventh inning against Joakim Soria.  He gave up a run-scoring single to Dustin Ackley and an RBI double to Aaron Hicks.

Soria’s ERA is now 4.96.
