The Chiefs were still wheeling and dealing on Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft after making their first selection on Friday evening.  With the 37th overall pick and seventh in the second round, the Chiefs went with Mississippi State defensive lineman Chris Jones.  He’s 6’6, 310 pounds and many draft experts like his long arm span of 34.5 inches.

Jones was disappointed that he wasn’t a first round pick, so when his name was called, he was dancing on stage on Friday night.

Against Mizzou on that Thursday night game on November 5th, when the Tigers lost 31-13, Jones was part of a defensive line that constantly pressured quarterback Drew Lock.  He finished with two solo tackles, and had one of the five sacks for the Bulldogs, but missed at least one more sack when Lock slipped through his hands and there were several times he was held, even beating center Evan Boehm a few times.  There were numerous times he just ran over Mitch Hall and Taylor Chappell on that right side.  If Jones wasn’t hitting Lock, he was moving the line enough to force Lock to become uncomfortable in the pocket.

At times he looked clumsy and appeared to take some plays off.

The Chiefs then made a trade with Tampa Bay, sending their 28TH PICK (59th overall) to the Bucs.  In return the Chiefs got their Third Round 11th Pick (74th overall) and Fourth Round 8th Pick (106th overall).
