Chris Young vs. Sonny Gray. Saturday afternoon’s pitching matchup was already stacked against the Royals on paper. Young struggled again, allowing four runs in four innings as the Royals lost to the A’s 5-3. Young falls to 0-3 on the year with his ERA at 7.90.
Josh Reddick got to Young in the first after the Royals grabbed a 1-0 lead. He hit a three-run homer. Oakland tacked on another run in the second and that was enough for Gray, despite the Royals making him work.
Gray gave up two runs and seven hits, walking one and striking out six and got out of a few jams by stranding six runners, including four in scoring position.
The Royals four-game win streak came to an end.
