Top seeded Missouri Western used a 22-9 second half run to earn a hard fought 60-46 win over eighth seeded Nebraska-Kearney. For the Griffons Miliakere Kayamainavure led the way with 15 points while Mhykeah Baez had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sarafina Handy added 11 points and Dwanisha Tate added 10 points and a team best four steals.

MWSU will face #4 Emporia State at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

Second seeded Pittsburg State used a late fourth quarter run to hold off tenth seed Central Missouri 78-68 in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.  For the Jennies Ashley Jones had a double-double with 17 points pulling down 12 rebounds on the afternoon. Shelby Winkelmann played all forty minutes scoring 20 points while Ashley Duffy added 17 points.

PSU will take on third seeded Fort Hays State in the 12 noon semifinal.

The semifinal slate for the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament has been set for Saturday, following victories for seeds 1-4 after quarterfinal action on Thursday at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.

The second game of the first session saw No. 2 Drury University beat No. 7 Rockhurst University 87-55. Annie Armstrong scored a game-high 16 points and added seven rebounds as the Panthers had the hot hand, shooting 56.3% from the field and 48.1% from behind the three-point line.  With the win, Drury will play Bellarmine in the first semifinal matchup Saturday at 12 p.m. CT.

In the evening session, No. 4 Quincy University opened with a 62-49 win past No. 5 Truman State University.
