A state budget subcommittee has voted not to include statewide elected officials and legislators in a proposed two-percent pay increase for state employees, in the budget that starts July 1.

“Politicians in this state do not need a pay raise. Ordinary state employees are the worst paid in the entire country and politicians in this state are somewhere in the teens,” said Barnes. “Rejecting that pay increase and plowing the money instead in state employee healthcare premiums is the right thing to do.”
The change also eliminates pay increases for those who work in statewide elected officials’ offices and make more than $100,000 a year.
The governor proposed the pay increase for all state employees. Missouri state workers are paid the least, or close to it, of all states’ employees.
