After starting the season 13-0 against a mediocre non-conference schedule, the 23rd ranked Mizzou women’s basketball team seems to face a tough challenge every night in SEC play and the harsh reality of conference play is setting in.
The Tigers dropped to 2-4 in conference after losing 81-77 in overtime at 12th ranked Texas A & M.
The women are close. Â They’re not far off from being one of the elite teams in the SEC. Â They rallied from down 14 in the fourth quarter to force OT. Â Mizzou actually led late, but couldn’t finish the deal.
Texas A&M led 56-42 with 8:46 remaining before the Tigers went on a 14-0 run over the next four plus minutes to tie. Â Mizzou took the lead 60-58 with 1:56 left in regulation on a layup by Jordan Frericks, who led the Tigers with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Sophie Cunningham put the Tigers up 63-59 with 1:14 to go on a three-pointer.  In the closing minute, A&M’s Courtney Walker was fouled attempting a three-pointer and converted all three foul shots to tie the score at 65-65 with eight seconds on the clock, eventually forcing overtime. The Tigers outscored the Aggies 25-13 in the fourth quarter.
The teams battled through five ties in overtime before the Aggies pulled away.
Freshman Cierra Porter added 20 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
