After starting the season 13-0 against a mediocre non-conference schedule, the 23rd ranked Mizzou women’s basketball team seems to face a tough challenge every night in SEC play and the harsh reality of conference play is setting in.

The Tigers dropped to 2-4 in conference after losing 81-77 in overtime at 12th ranked Texas A & M.

The women are close.  They’re not far off from being one of the elite teams in the SEC.  They rallied from down 14 in the fourth quarter to force OT.  Mizzou actually led late, but couldn’t finish the deal.

Texas A&M led 56-42 with 8:46 remaining before the Tigers went on a 14-0 run over the next four plus minutes to tie.  Mizzou took the lead 60-58 with 1:56 left in regulation on a layup by Jordan Frericks, who led the Tigers with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Sophie Cunningham put the Tigers up 63-59 with 1:14 to go on a three-pointer.  In the closing minute, A&M’s Courtney Walker was fouled attempting a three-pointer and converted all three foul shots to tie the score at 65-65 with eight seconds on the clock, eventually forcing overtime. The Tigers outscored the Aggies 25-13 in the fourth quarter.

The teams battled through five ties in overtime before the Aggies pulled away.

Freshman Cierra Porter added 20 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
