Representative Mike Moon (R-Ash Grove) wrote a letter picked to House Speaker Todd Richardson (R-Poplar Bluff) and picked up by the Kansas City Star, calling for a special legislative session to “tie” Governor Nixon’s Hands and to stop the allowing of Syrian refugees into Missouri. Specifically, Moon says, he is concerned about those refugees who are Muslim, and he suggests they would be willing to lie to enter the country.

He says refugees should be placed into camps to be “properly cared for and returned safely home when the time is right.”

Missouri House Democrat leader Jake Hummel (St. Louis) says Moon’s call for creating camps, “is a foul expression of bigotry and fear,” and should be “condemned in the strongest terms possible.”

Representative Moon has not responded to a request for an interview and a copy of his letter, but his legislative assistant says “several other” representatives have issued similar requests for a special session to debate and address the refugees’ relocation.
