Michael Scherer had a tough luck opening series against the Bulldogs

After a three and out for the Mizzou offense that included a sack of Drew Lock on third down on the opening series, Dak Prescott wasted little time getting Mississippi State on the board.

It was a rough series for linebacker Michael Scherer. He missed a potential tackle for loss in the backfield that turned into a long first down run by the Bulldogs. Two plays later, Scherer had a Prescott pass bounce out of his hands, taking away a potential interception. On the next pass, Scherer got beat by Fred Ross for a 36 yard touchdown. The opening drive covered 4 plays, 62 yards in 51 seconds.

After Kentrell Brothers came up with a strip and Terry Beckner a fumble recovery, Mizzou’s offense got down to the eight on a screen pass from Lock to Tyler Hunt. The drive stalled and Andrew Baggett’s field goal with 2:00 to play in the first, made it 7-3
