“It was a lot of fun,” American League manager Ned Yost said after his team beat the National League All-Stars 6-3 on July 15, in Cincinnati. “We’ve been really working on our game plan for the last week. We tried to punch holes in it every which way we could, and we worked it to perfection. We wanted to put power at the top of the lineup and hopefully get a quick strike. Mike Trout took care of that for us.”
Trout was named the game’s MVP, scoring two runs and putting the AL up 1-0 with his leadoff homer in the first against Dodgers’ starter Zach Grienke.
Ahead of Game 3 of the World Series, which shifts to Citi Field in New York, Yost looked back at that summer game and put everything he could into winning that game. Â Even though it didn’t quite work out in the 2014 World Series, Yost knew the importance of getting that home field advantage in 2015 if his team could get back to this position.
Key figures in the playoff run for Houston and Toronto also played key roles in the game.  Astros starter Dallas Keuchel threw the first two innings and while only allowing one ball to leave the infield, he gave up an unearned run.  The score was tied 1-1 in the fifth when the AL scored two of LA’s Clayton Kershaw.
Prince Fielder hit an RBI single with one out and Lorenzo Cain helped the Royals cause here in October when he laced an RBI double for a 3-1 lead. Â The winning pitcher was David Price, who threw a perfect fourth inning with two strikeouts.
Cain was the first Royals player to record multiple hits in an All-Star Game since Bo Jackson in 1989. George Brett did it three times in his career.
