Chesterfield, Mo. native and former Mizzou Tiger Max Scherzer, of the Washington Nationals, threw his second no-hitter of 2015 on Saturday night in a 2-0 win over the New York Mets.
Scherzer is the first major league pitcher with two no-hitters in the same regular season since Nolan Ryan did so in 1973 and he is the first major league pitcher ever to throw two no-hitters in the same regular season without issuing a walk.
Scherzer also tossed a no-hitter back on June 20 against the Pirates.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny wants to keep everyone healthy for the postseason, but the weather comes into play. The Cardinals’ game Saturday night was postponed by rain. They’ll play the Braves in a doubleheader Sunday starting at noon, Missouri time.
“We can get some good out of it,” Matheny said. “We’ll get some guys some playing time. We’ll take a run at winning two games.”

Win today and the Royals have clinched the best record in the American League.
Kansas City eliminated Minnesota from playoff contention with a victory on Saturday and now left destiny in their own hands. Their win, along with Toronto’s loss on Saturday, gives the Royals a one-game lead over the Blue Jays for the best record in baseball.
A win today will guarantee home field advantage for the Royals in every series they start in the playoffs. If the Royals lose today and Toronto wins, the Blue Jays take the tie-breaker which was head-to-head during the regular season.
