Troy Brouwer scored the first of two St. Louis Blues power play goals to help in their 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night at Scottrade Center. He also had four hits and the Blues are hoping his size and ability to put the puck in the net will help create a strong net front presence. Something the team has lacked the last couple of years.
Brouwer has scored 21 and 25 goals in each of the last two seasons with Washington and during the Blackhawks’ first Stanley Cup run in 2009-10, Brouwer scored four goals and assisted on four others. The 30-year old could be one of the missing pieces the Blues need to get out of the first round of the playoffs.
Brouwer got to spend time with his linemates Jori Lehtera and Jaden Schwartz for the first time in camp. Lehtera saw his first preseason action Thursday after he had surgery on his right ankle to remove a bone chip on Aug. 4. Lehtera scored a shorthanded goal and set up Brouwer’s.
This line could still make an impact this season even after Vladimir Tarasenko was moved off last year’s famed “STL” line.
