Maty Mauk started the game 7-for-9 on his first two possessions of the game.  Nate Brown made a great sideline catch on the first pass attempt of the game.  It was originally ruled an incompletion, but replay showed different.

On the Tigers second drive, Mauk found J’Mon Moore on a 17-yard touchdown pass.  The offensive line provided some great blocking and Russell Hansbrough, getting the start at tailback, picked up a linebacker on a blitz that bought Mauk plenty of time.

The drive covered 80 yards in 13 plays.  Tyler Hunt picked up two yards on a strong run off right tackle.  Hansbrough caught a screen pass and gained five yards for a first down after getting hit well behind the first down marker.  That gave the Tigers the ball inside the redzone.

Patrick Towles used completions to Garrett Johnson of 28 and 24 yards to get Kentucky inside the Tigers 15 at the end of the first quarter.
