Salvador Perez had two hits and Mike Moustakas homered, but the Royals offense was limited to just six hits on the night as the club’s five-game win streak came to an end in a 4-1 defeat at Boston in the start of a four-game series.  Wade Miley allowed one run on six hits while striking out six and cooled off the Royals who had won 10 of their last 12.

Danny Duffy gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out three in five innings.  Duffy loaded the bases in the first before walking in a run. The Red Sox made it 4-0 in the third when Ryan Hanigan singled in runners from second and third, then scored on Jackie Bradley Jr’s triple.

Royals’ left fielder Alex Gordon will head to Triple-A Omaha this weekend and start a rehab assignment as he returns from a groin strain he suffered in early July. Gordon will start as DH and spend limited time in the outfield.
