During Saturday’s scrimmage, a few hundred fans and media got a first glimpse of the future of Missouri’s wide receivers and saw a lot of promise. Freshman wide receiver Jonathan Johnson broke off a long 64 yard run that included out running defenders and sharp cut backs. At the end of the run, Johnson’s day came to an end when he suffered an ankle injury.
J’Mon Moore and freshman Justin Smith were the other two wide receivers to break off catch and runs of over 60 yards. The Tigers receivers were showing their ability to turn short passes into long gaines.
However, the problems mounted up when Moore suffered a shoulder injury during Monday morning’s practice. Moore, who played in 12 games for the Tigers last year, had a pair of passes for 33 yards against Georgia (Oct. 11).
In a roster move that was first reported by Mark Kim of KOMU-TV, redshirt-freshman quarterback John Eierman, from Warsaw, Mo. is moving to wide receiver.
At only 6’0, Eierman had his hands full with competition at quarterback with Mauk starting, followed by redshirt-sophomore Eddie Printz and senior Corbin Berstresser battling for the number two spot. In addition, the play of fellow redshirt-freshman Marvin Zanders and true freshman Drew Lock on Saturday proved they will be contending for a starting job in the future. Eierman becomes the 7th freshman wide receiver on the roster.
