Governor Jay Nixon (D) isn’t interested in an investigation of allegations that Planned Parenthood has violated laws, based on a hidden camera video released by an anti-abortion group.

Republicans say the video clearly shows the organization’s director of medical research discussing the illegal sale of fetal organs, but Planned Parenthood says its work has been falsely portrayed, and says the allegations are not true. Those Republicans, including Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder and senators Kurt Schaefer (Columbia) and Mike Parson (Bolivar) have called for investigations by the state legislature and the Attorney General’s Office.

Nixon said he hasn’t seen that video.

“We’ve got to focus on what matters in this state – creating a good job environment, moving the economy forward, not taking the story of the day and trying to sensationalize it,” said Nixon. “I understand some of the issues behind this, but I’ve not had a chance to look at that. We’ve been working on creating jobs and expanding the economy.”

Two committees in the Republican-controlled House will hold hearings on the allegations.
