Ned Yost surpassed Hall of Famer Whitey Herzog as the winningest manager in franchise history, with the Royals’ 3-2 victory over the Brewers on Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium.  Keep in mind, Yost still has a record that is below .500.

Yost is 411-427 with the Royals to Herzog’s 410-304 mark from 1975-79.

“I don’t feel like I’m in the same class as Whitey Herzog and Dick Howser, one. Two, this is an organizational achievement,” said Yost.

Two former Brewers helped Yost reach his milestone against their former employers.  Alcides Escobar doubled to lead off the first and scored on Lorenzo Cain’s sacrifice fly. Escobar singled in the second, stole second base and scored on Mike Moustakas’ two-out single.

Kendrys Morales’ also drove in a run in the first with a two-out single to bring home Eric Hosmer, doubled.

Jeremy Guthrie (5-4) picked up his first win since May 20, allowing two runs and seven hits, walked none and struck out four.

Of course, relievers Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis and Greg Holland held the Brewers to one hit over the final three innings to close out the victory.
