Royals catcher Salvador Perez lined a solo home run in the eighth inning leading the Royals to a 4-3 victory over the  Texas Rangers in the series finale at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It was just the fourth win in the last 12 games, but it keeps the Royals one game behind first place Minnesota, with a three-game series starting their tonight.

The Royals were up 3-0 heading into the seventh after starter Jeremy Guthrie kept the Rangers off the board through six.  He left in the seventh with two runners on base in the seventh.  Kelvin Herrera couldn’t get it done.  Elvis Andrus singled to load the bases, Leonys Martin hit a two-run single and Robinson Chirinos’ RBI groundout tied it.

Reliever Wade Davis pitched a scoreless eighth and and closer Greg Holland picked up his ninth save after the Perez homer.
