Here’s the official press release from Springfield Public Schools.

It is a homecoming for Kurt Thompson as Springfield Public Schools has selected him once again to be the head football coach for Kickapoo High School. Thompson previously served in this position from 1998-2006.

In addition to his previous years of coaching at KHS, Thompson has served as head football coach at Webb City, 1990-1997, where his team was named Class 4 State Champions in 1992 and 1993.  While head coach at Republic High School, 2006-2013, Thompson was a 2011 inductee into the Missouri Football Coaches Hall of Fame.

“I am excited to have Kurt returning to Springfield Public Schools and Kickapoo High School.  The KHS community is already familiar with the quality he will bring to its program,” said Mark Fisher, SPS athletic director.

In addition to his coaching duties, Thompson will teach physical education. His employment, which is pending final approval by the school board, will begin with the 2015-2016 school year.
