Jayson Tatum of Chaminade forces a shot in the closing seconds of their semifinal game with Park Hills South

Park Hills South was down 30-19 at the half and James Byrd of the Panthers felt top ranked Chaminade may have tried to cruise a bit in the second half.  Park Hills South rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Red Devils and advance to the Boys Class 5 final with a 53-50 win.

Byrd and Ryan Welty led Park Hills South with 16 points each.  Byrd was limited by playing with four fouls most of the fourth quarter and Welty, a 46% three-point shooter, was just 2 of 10 from long distance.  Welty said they hung together and played as a team.

“I don’t know how we still won,” laughed Byrd.

Chaminade was led by Jayson Tatum who finished with 17 points, but he was clearly pressing in the second half, as the Panthers made their run.  He shot just 3 of 12 from the floor.  He was solid at the line, making 11 of 12 attempts.  Tyler Cook added 15 as Chaminade falls to 24-4.

Byrd and Welty share their thoughts on their amazing second half comeback.
