Frank Haith (Tulsa Athletics)

USA Today ran a story on Tulsa head coach Frank Haith. The main part of the story focused on Haith’s relationship with one of his sisters, but of course it also touches on the surprise season the Golden Hurricane are having. They are 17-6 over and 10-1 in the American Athletic Conference.

I’m not really surprised by their record.  His roster is stacked with juniors he didn’t recruit and they have a couple of seniors on a team that won 23 games last year and made it into the NCAA Tournament.  Haith is good at taking over other coaches’ talent and having immediate success.

However, Haith told the reporter for the story he was confident he would have what it takes to win 20-plus games this season at Missouri and even more the following season, but the only reason he left was for job security.  That must have been the reason he texted Mike Alden.

So is Haith taking a shot at his former employer saying he would have had 20 wins this season?  You bet…but why?  I’m sure most Mizzou fans don’t care about Haith thinking he could get 20 wins this season…I’m sure they would have been happy with at least one win as a number two seed back in Omaha.
