The Chiefs signed quarterback Terrelle Pryor to a one-year deal after a workout Wednesday.  The 25 year old appeared in 14 games with the Oakland Raiders in 2012 and 2013.  The Raiders traded the 25-year old Pryor to the Seattle Seahawks in April for a seventh-round pick. He completed 21 of 39 passes for 281 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the preseason but was released before the season.

Terez Paylor, of the Kansas City Star, notes the log jam at the quarterback position.  Alex Smith will start next season under his new contract extension and he also feels the Chiefs are committed to fifth round draft pick Aaron Murray.

That leaves Chase Daniel, Tyler Bray and now the former Ohio State star to battle for the other quarterback spot.

As I watch quarterbacks struggle through the NFL, watching old veterans like Kyle Orton (who finally retired) get the opportunity to run an NFL offense and train wrecks of a franchise in Cleveland shuffle quarterback play between Hoyer and Manziel, it makes me crazy that no NFL team has made a move to acquire a player like Daniel and give him a shot.

Think about it…he learned the NFL game behind Drew Brees.  He was a proven successful quarterback at Missouri and yet guys like Blaine Gabbert, Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez (for example) got better opportunities to be successful.  Perhaps the Chiefs can spin off Daniel’s salary to NFL team for a draft pick.  In limited time, both games against San Diego, he showed he can moved the offense.

For his career, he’s 48 of 75 for 460 yards with a touchdown and an interception.  I’m excited about the Pryor signing.  Not for the Chiefs, but more so for the opportunities this could lead to for Daniel.
