The Missouri Tigers saw a four point lead with two minutes left in regulation disappear when LSU’s Keith Hornsby hit a three-pointer from the corner to tie the game at 65. Wes Clark had a chance to win it with seconds left but missed a running jumper. The first thought was “Oh no, not again.”
This time, Mizzou turned up the pressure on defense, holding LSU to 0 for 8 shooting in overtime and hit 7 of 9 from the free throw line in the extra session to open up SEC play with a 74-67 win. Keith Shamburger converted four free throws in the final minute. The Tigers get back to .500 at 7-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The key for Missouri defensively was shutting down LSU’s top two scorers. Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey were averaging a combined 34.5 points this season, yet they were held to nine points each as they ran into early foul trouble with Martin fouling out of the game.

LSU used an 11-0 run to break open a 6-6 tie. A couple of three pointers by Namon Wright sparked the offense as the Tigers came back to briefly take the lead in the first half on a dunk by Jonathan Williams III. That put Mizzou up 22-20 with 3:39 left in the first half, but LSU quickly got the lead back to five before settling on a 30-27 advantage.
The lead changed hands several times after Mizzou rallied from another seven point deficit getting strong inside play from Keanau Post, who finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. The Tigers got hot beyond the arc, hitting three in a row at one point. J3 finished with a team high 21 points. Wes Clark and Shamburger also finished in double figures with 13 and 10 respectively.
