Missouri State guard Marcus Marshall  has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after the Bears’ season opening 64-53 win against Eastern Illinois last Friday.  Marshall scored a career-high 38 points against the Panthers, the most points by Missouri State player since 1979 and the most-ever by a Bear in a season opener.

The Preseason all-MVC honorable mention was 12-for-16 from the field, 6-of-7 from 3-point range and made a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line. His scoring efforts matched the seventh-best single-game scoring total in program history and were the most points ever by a Bear in the month of November.

It was Marshall’s first game back since missing 21 games last year, coming off a successful rehabilitation from season-ending knee injury. The 2013 MVC Freshman of the Year is also one of MSU’s top ball defenders, ball handlers and free throw shooters.

Missouri State plays Avila on Wednesday night at JQH Arena.  Tip-off set for 7:05.
