Jamaal Charles ran for two touchdowns, Knile Davis returned a kickoff 99 yards, Cairo Santos kicked two field goals including a 53 yarder and the defenses sacked Rams quarterback Austin Davis seven times. That pretty much sums up the domination in one sentence as the Chiefs beat the Rams 34-7.
The victory now makes the Chiefs 5-0 in the all-time head to head matchup with the Rams, since they moved to St. Louis in the mid 90’s.
The Rams opened the scoring on their first drive of the game as Lance Kendricks caught a one yard pass from Davis. The drive covered six plays and 65 yards. From that point on the Rams gained just 135 yards the rest of the game.
Charles, the Chiefs’ career rushing leader, scored on a one yard touchdown in the first quarter. He added a 36-yard score early in the fourth quarter. Alex Smith was 24 of 28 for 226 yards, and Davis capped the string of 34 unanswered points with a short touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Austin Davis finished 15 of 25 for 160 yards with a touchdown and an interception, three of his sacks coming at the hands of Justin Houston. It didn’t help that left tackle Jake Long, right guard Rodger Saffold and center Scott Wells sustained injuries during the game.
Benny Cunningham, Zac Stacy and Tre Mason were limited to just 84 yards on 19 carries.
