Speed kills. Monday night, the Royals delivered two deadly doses in the bottom of the ninth to rally past Chicago White Sox, 4-3. The win keeps K.C. to within 1.5 games of division leading Detroit.

Jarrod Dyson and Terrance Gore ran themselves into runs.  Down 3-2, Mike Moustakas doubled with one out in the ninth. Dyson ran for him and stole third then scored as Sox reliever Jake Petricka (1-5) threw a wild pitch. Nori Aoki doubled with two outs and Gore, who was called up from the minors on Sept. 1, pinch ran and scored from second on Lorenzo Cain’s infield single up the middle.

Gore took off with the pitch.  It was a high grounder up the middle that wasn’t handled cleanly.  By that time Gore was half way to home with no chance for a play.

James Shields, who had his career best 18 1/3 scoreless innings streak ended in the first, gave up three runs and 10 hits, while striking out six and walking none in seven innings.

Wade Davis (9-2) worked a scoreless ninth to pick up the victory, extending his scoreless streak to 31 2/3 innings.
