Mizzou held Toledo to a three and out to start the third quarter, then put together a 13 play, 85 yard drive capped with an eight yard screen pass from Mauk to Murphy. The Tigers were 4 for 4 on third down conversions on the drive and 8 of 12 for the game Mizzou went up 35-7.

Toledo answered Mizzou’s call with a nice drive of their own, highlighted by a 45 yard run by Kareem Hunt. He followed that up with a one yard score, giving him a second TD on the day and 142 yards.

On the Tigers next possession, Mauk forced up a throw on a 3rd and 11 and it was picked off at the 43. Toledo went four plays, capped by a one yard run from Hunt and just like that, it was a 14-point game at 35-21 with 5:18 to play in the third.

On third and seven, Mauk went over the middle to Bud Sasser for a 47 yard game. Hurrying up, Mauk threw a screen to Sasser who raced down the sideline 25 yards for a touchdown, putting the Tigers back up 42-21 with 4:21 to play.

Late in the third quarter, Toledo QB Ely dropped back for a pass and his right knee went out and he was carried and then carted off the field. Ely, the transfer from Alabama, finished 17 of 24 for 204 yards and one interception.
