The family of an Iowa college student who drowned May 31 on the Lake of the Ozarks while in the custody of the state Highway Patrol, hope a coroner’s inquest today will uncover how he died.

Brandon Ellingson’s father talks to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about the case.

Ellingson had been arrested, handcuffed and was wearing a life jacket when he went over the side of the state patrol boat and drowned. His family hopes the inquest will uncover why he went overboard and how he slipped free from the life jacket.
