Pinch hitter Ike Davis hit a towering three-run homer off Cardinals reliever Seth Maness in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates won 5-2 on Tuesday night.  The Cardinals rallied to tie the game with two runs in the seventh.

Gaby Sanchez singled with one out, and Starling Marte followed a hit.  After a conference on the mound, Maness gave up the long homer to Davis.

Jon Jay and Randal Grichuk each drove in a run for the Cardinals. Lance Lynn gave up two runs over six innings.  Over the first six of the game, the bats could do nothing against Gerrit Cole until the seventh.

Matt Adams led off with a double, and Jhonny Peralta followed with a single. All-Star Tony Watson relieved and Adams scored on a sacrifice fly by Jay.  Grichuk, called up after Shane Robinson was placed on the DL with a shoulder injury, hit a single up the middle to tie the game.
