Cincinnati Reds starter Johnny Cueto just didn’t have it last night and the Cardinals made him pay for it.  Cueto was denied becoming the majors’ first 16-game winner as he allowed five runs in five+ innings, as his seven-game winning streak ended with a 7-3 St. Louis victory.
Jon Jay had three hits, scored twice and was hit by a pitch for the 16th time this season.  He is batting .462 (18 for 39) during a 12-game hitting streak.

Jay singled and scored on Matt Holliday’s double in the third. Jay reached on a two-out infield hit in the fifth, leading to Peralta’s three-run double.

Lance Lynn improved to 14-8, allowing just four singles in seven inning.  With a 5-0 lead, his night ended before coming out in the eighth with a 58-minute rain delay.  The Reds scored three times in the ninth, and Trevor Rosenthal got two outs for his 37th save in 42 chances.
