The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney says it will be up to a grand jury to decide whether charges will be filed in the shooting death Saturday of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a Ferguson Police officer.

“I can’t guarantee and won’t guarantee, and nobody can, any particular outcome on the investigation,” Prosecutor Bob McCulloch told reporters Wednesday afternoon.  That video is available at KSDK.com.

McCulloch did not take questions, saying releasing evidence could compromise the investigation.

He says if the grand jury issues an indictment, then information gathered in the investigation would be made public during the course of prosecution. If no indictment is handed down, that information would then be made public immediately.

“I won’t do anything to corrupt the integrity of the investigation itself,” says McCulloch.

Of the timeline of the county’s investigation, McCulloch says “There is no timeline. We will do it as expeditiously as possible but we won’t rush through it, and we certainly won’t cut off anybody who has something to say.”

He urged witnesses to come forward, if not to county authorities then to federal.

McCulloch says the investigation will be, “full, fair, complete and impartial,” and says there will be a “lot of overlapping” between the local authorities’ investigation and those of federal authorities.
