The Missouri Tiger Football team held its first major scrimmage of fall camp Tuesday morning on Faurot Field, and while the number one offense found the end zone early, defense won the day.  That is typically the case in these early scrimmages.  The defense tends to be a little further along than the offense.  The exception to that rule in the time I’ve been covering Mizzou football, was Chase Daniel’s senior season.

The defensive line, projected to be the strength of this unit, certainly lived up to its billing.  Markus Golden broke up a couple of passes.  Shane Ray brought some good outside presence as well.  The defense was credited with several pass break ups.  Five quarterback sacks, eight tackles for loss, two picks and a fumble recovery highlighted strong defensive play.

The touchdowns came from the number one offense,  a 24-yard scoring run by junior TB Tyler Hunt against the second-string defense. The second score came late in the day as the #1 offense drove 41 yards against the #1 defense.  Mauk showed some touch lofting a pass to the goal line, where Jimmie Hunt went up and pulled in the catch before rolling into the end zone.
