Public opinion is an important part of Missouri Department of Conservation’s deer management efforts and the Department will once again be holding public meetings around the state, starting next week, to inform citizens of its deer management efforts and to gather feedback.

Joining me on this first of four Google Hangouts (watch below) during the month of June is Director, Bob Ziehmer.

“We recognize the value of citizens staying engaged with their Department of Conservation through phone calls, emails, or social media, or the monthly magazine,” said Ziehmer.  “I would encourage individuals if you have thoughts please give them to us. Make the Conservation Department better…help us improve.”

The public meetings will be an “open house” format for folks to stop by to learn and discuss a variety of topics, including, but not limited to:

•History of deer management in Missouri
•Hunter retention and recruitment
•Deer Management Plan
•Possible regulation changes related to archery hunting and use of crossbows, timing of seasons, harvest limits for bucks and does, and disease management efforts related to Chronic Wasting Disease and other infectious diseases
•Other issues under consideration related to landowner permits, conservation area deer management, and urban deer management
