Tate Matheny

Missouri State outfielder Tate Matheny earned an invite to compete for a roster spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Their training camp begins in Cary, N.C., on June 19th. Matheny becomes the sixth Bear to be selected to compete with Team USA during head coach Keith Guttin’s tenure and is looking to become the first MSU position player to earn an invitation since Ryan Howard in 2000. Matheny was Missouri State’s team MVP for the second straight year in leading the offense with a .330 batting mark, while his 10 home runs ranked third in the Missouri Valley Conference. Tate is the son of Cardinals manager Mike Matheny.

The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team’s final 24-man roster will be set June 29, followed by a summer schedule that will include international friendship series against Chinese Taipei, Japan, as well as a trip to Cuba and the Honkbal Haarlem Baseball Week in the Netherlands.
